‘It’s About Time!’
The Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Party
The
Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Party (DS4SEQ) is a state
political party and was registered with the Electoral Commission of
Queensland in December 2008. The founding members of the Party are
everyday people, who have no previous political background and no
political allegiances.
The Party is a single-issue party and has no other agenda. The Party's sole policy is:
To have Daylight Saving introduced into the South East Queensland region under a dual time zone arrangement.
With
neither of the two major parties prepared to change their stance on
this topical issue, the Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Party
was formed. This ensures that political pressure is applied on the
significant issue of Daylight Saving.
It
has been 18 years since the one and only Queensland Referendum
on Daylight Saving was held in 1992. In this time, there has been an
overwhelming increase in support of Daylight Saving, indicating that
the majority of Queenslanders are in favour of its introduction. This
support is geographically divided, with the majority of residents in
South East Queensland being supportive of Daylight Saving, while the
majority of Queenslanders residing outside this region, oppose its
introduction.
To
resolve the geographic issue of Daylight Saving within Queensland,
logically, a geographic solution should be applied - thus introducing a
dual time zone. A dual time zone would assist businesses in the South
East region, and would also satisfy the majority of ALL of Queensland's
residents, not just the minority, as is currently the case.
Currently,
the 'time border' runs through the densely populated Gold Coast-Tweed
region, affecting a very large number of people for six months of the
year. However, if this border was shifted to a sparsely populated area,
north-west of the urbanised South East Queensland region, the number of
people disrupted would be significantly reduced.
The
issue of Daylight Saving within Queensland requires urgent attention
and needs to be addressed appropriately. This issue has been sitting in
the 'Too Hard Basket' for so long, that the major parties have become
too politically comfortable in remaining with the status quo.
Daylight
Saving has become an increasingly more significant issue facing
Queensland, and simply ignoring it will not make this go away. Not
having Daylight Saving in South East Queensland is denying the needs of
business, and denying the people of South East Queensland greater
lifestyle opportunities. Daylight Saving is a lifestyle and business
choice, and one that the majority of South East Queenslanders would
like to have.

South East Queensland - beautiful one day...
We
all know that Queensland is Australia's finest state to live in. In
addition to this, South East Queensland's sub-tropical climate is best
suited to enjoy the benefits of Daylight Saving....So how come we don't
make the most of it?
